Less than one-third of Mexico’s coffee comes from 2 million smallholders, most of whom live in the south-western states of Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas. Here, where we find most of Mexico’s indigenous population who, over the years, have moved up-mountain and onto smaller plots to maintain independence.

As these households recover from la roya, they are seeing fantastic qualities but in .5  to 2 bag lots. The challenge is coordinating with producers to get these nano-lots down the mountain while maintaining trust and traceability. This is done through networks of trusted relationships, supported by a strong communications campaign, a best-practices check-off program to participate in premiums, and a few regional bodegas from where we can provide financing.
