Sumatra, our primary focus in Indonesia, is a vast and diverse island, with over 52 languages spoken across 4 major ethnic groups. Tight networks of local collectors move coffee across the farming regions and up through larger and larger collectors until it reaches dry mills and exporters in Medan. Maintaining consistency and focusing on quality over volume in this environment can be difficult, which is why, here, our in-country staff works only with lots we purchase from the primary collector. These strong, year-over-year relationships with both farmer groups and collectors allow us to control drying, and storage and implement daily and weekly lot separation.
